Entrepreneurs and College Admission August 27, 2013 If they do it right, entrepreneurs can differentiate themselves from other applicants in highly selective college admissions. Entrepreneurs can differentiate themselves from the pack in highly selective college admissions. If youre a high school student who happens to be an entrepreneur, its important to share your entrepreneurial story as you apply for college admission. College admissions counselors love the stories of entrepreneurs. Who doesnt? Everyone even if they dont acknowledge this in some way wishes that they were a successful entrepreneur so if youve tried to be an entrepreneur (even if you havent yet found any success), share the story in your college admissions essay. Share the story on your activity sheet. Maybe even your teachers and guidance counselor can write about your entrepreneurial efforts in their letters of recommendation on your behalf. Now that would be great. And dont forget you have the opportunity to shape what goes into those letters of recommendation! If youre a high school student who sells office supplies or bike accessories or even your own cooking, tell that story on your application. But only do so if this is truly a serious commitment of yours. If your business takes up an hour or so of your week, dont share this story as college admissions counselors only care about that which is important to you. And if youre only spending an hour a week on it, its clearly not that important to you. No matter what you might write in your college admissions essays. Maybe youve pursued getting venture capital. Maybe your business has gone through rounds of VC investing. Now wouldnt that be cool! Maybe your business has been written up in the press or maybe even youve appeared on ABCs hit series Shark Tank. If Mark Cuban has invested in your business, thats a pretty amazing thing to write about in your college admissions essays. Its extremely impressive! Many of our students at Ivy Coach have been entrepreneurs over the years and its quite fun when they share their stories about their businesses on their college application. Its different. Its refreshing. Its not another Key Club story. Oy vey.

I do not need to copy many definitions from books, use plagiarism, or check thousands of websites to w honestly write about the concepts taught in this course. Concepts that have modified many of my ways of thinking that were previously erroneous. The contents of this class have helped me learn more about the verbal, and non-verbal communication among different cultures, ethnic groups and societies. We all practice communication some how, but I feel privileged of learning more details about the concepts of interpersonal communications after finishing the course. Each chapter of the book offers a very interesting, and educational instruction about social problems in relation to communication. I enjoyed reading about the roots of the different types of human behaviors. I consider the study of interpersonal communication as a very intellectual discipline that is essential in our daily lives. I each unit, different concepts were described, but the five of them that captured most of my attention are the following: Internal Tensions The book describes internal tensions as â€Å"relationship stresses that grow out of peoples needs, and peoples interactions.†(Wood 332) For me, it was very important to learn about the influence of the internal tensions that affect the health of friendships, psycological health, and physical health. Rogue states under dictatorial rule threaten the fragile peace, which exists in our modern world. Constantly as a society Americans have always fought against these said foes. However all too often we pass a blind eye to the humanity of the enemies’ civilian populations. For more often than not, those who live within these systems are chronically oppressed. The nation of North Korea is no exception, with â€Å"Bing-brother always watching.† The government in North Korea pervades all aspects of life. Hunger is a problem worldwide. A kenning is adescriptive, poetical expression used instead of a simple name for aperson or thing. Beowulf is hardly ever called by his actual name. This dazzles the listener withBeowulfs bravery. His bravery is again exaggerated when he jumps in theswamp wearing heavy armor to fight and kill Grendels mother. Itsunlikely even a strong warrior could win a battle with a she-monster inan underwater cave with a broken sword. But it adds to the excitement. In the line The head of Grendel, with heavy toil; / Four of thestoutest, with all their strength, / Could hardly carry on swaying spear/ Grendels head to the gold-decked hall. (1109-1112) exaggerations aremade concerning the size and weight of the monsters head. Again, itportrays a more gruesome and dramatic scene to the listenersimagination. Alliteration, which is repeating the same sound, usually aconsonant, at the beginning of words or in accented syllables, givesthis story a more poetic sound. Alliteration also helped the scops orstorytellers in memorizing the tales. Examples of alliteration can befound throughout the poem such as, The Hall of the Heart, His pledgeand promise, Dragging the dead men home to his den, Fitted andfurnished, and Showed sea-cliffs shining. This device adds creativityand rhythm to the poem. It makes it more entertaining to read, speak, orlisten to such a long story. Metaphors in the kennings, exaggerations, and alliteration allhelp in developing vivid descriptions and imagery to entertain andbeautifully tell the story of Beowulf. Imagery, figures of speech thathelp the mind to form pictures, are throughout the poem. This occurrence has escalated to the point that everywhere you go, it is likely to find yourself amongst one or two rude teenagers. They treat people with no respect and the shocking part of it is that they show no remorse for their actions. Primeval cultures upheld respect as one of the important traits kids should have when dealing with adults. Although cultures have many contrariety, but at the same time, had elements that united them through time and geographic region. Many of these elements were included in religious, social and moral laws. In religions and western philosophy the element of respect is held with topmost importance allowing a clear boundary between those who are young and naive and those who are experienced and mature. The view that kids has to show respect when dealing with people that are significantly older than them has gradually diminished over the years. Emergence of new cultures has affected the rate of discipline we give to young ones. High school students are popularly known for their notorious disrespect for authority and adults in general. Many continually wonder how children change from been respectful at a very young age to been disrespectful at their teenage years. This led to various research and studies into teenagers and their disrespectful attitudes. Studies and researchfilled with optimism, hopefulness and encouragement, not disrespect towards other people in the society.According to the Bible in the book of proverbs 22:6 (New International Version) states that â€Å"train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he would not depart from it.† parental and societal failure to inculcate good manners into children has led to the various societal severities. If your child is showing signs of disrespect to you, their teachers or other family members it is important that you do not wait until it gets out of hand before seeking help from a therapist who can make recommendations depending on the situation. Teamwork of all social institutions is the only way the problem of bad manners can be stopped. When the family, the media and schools come together with determination to tackle this issue, then America will be a better place.
